商家運用許多促銷手段，來吸引顧客，因此有必要對這些常用促銷手段的英文翻譯進行總結。促銷是營利的重要手段，自從產品變成商品的那一刻起，便借助不同的管道、不同的方式、不同的手段和不同的方法開始了驚心動魄的促銷大戰。
一、廣義的促銷活動一般用promotion來翻譯： promotion指為推銷商品而作的廣告宣傳、促銷活動。例如：Advertising is often the most effective method of promotion.做廣告往往是最有效的推銷方法。
二、廉價銷售、大拍賣用sale來翻譯：
1.act of selling or of giving an item in exchange for money 出售、銷售
(1)Cash sale: selling sth for cash現金銷售
(2)For sale: ready to be sold 待售；出售
例如：They put the factory up for sale.他們要賣掉工廠。
(3)On sale:上市的
例如：These items are on sale in most chemists.
這些商品在大多數藥店均有銷售。
2.sale可指大賤賣；（特價）廉售
例如：The shop is having a sale to clear old stock.
這家商店正在進行特價廉售以清除舊貨庫存。
常用表達有：
(1)bargain sale大減價
(2)clearance sale清倉大拍賣
(3)jumble sale舊貨廉賣

三、打折
1.打折
我們用discount 一詞來表示，指賣方給買方折扣。首先看看它的幾個用法：
常用表達有：
(1)大宗購買給予折扣
例如：If an order is exceptionally large, we are prepared to increase the discount.
如果訂貨數量特別大，我們願意加大折扣。
(2)To sale goods at a discount or at a discount price:銷價出售貨物
例如：These books sell at fixed(or full)prices rather than at a discount.
這些書仍按定價銷售，不打折。

2.折價：reduce

(2)a price reduction :價格的降低
(3)Sell sth at a huge reduction：大幅度降價出售某物
make /offer reductions on certain articles：對某些商品減價
3.（債、稅等的）可減免的款額；折扣；部分退款

及早結賬有20美元的折扣。
4.削價 cut-priceUS cut-rate
cut- price goods:削價商品
I bought it cut-price.我買的是廉價貨。
A cut-price store: 賣削價商品的商店。
四、免費的：這也是商家慣用的行銷手段，我們借助free 一詞來翻譯。Free可指“自由的”、“隨便的”，另外它還有一個意思就是“免費的”，即free of charge.其常用用法如下：
1.免費的
The price catalogue sent free on request. 一經要求可免費寄送價格目錄表。
2.carriage free:the custom does not pay for the shipping.運費免付
3.free gift: 贈品
There is a free gift worth $25 to any customer buying a washing machine.
任何一個購買洗衣機的顧客都可得到價值25美元的贈品。
4.free trial: testing of a machine with no payment involved.免費試機
5.“買一送一”
綜合free 的這些含義，我們可將“買一送一”翻譯為buy one and get one free
五、跳樓價：指“跳樓”的是商家，好像價格低得超出他們的心理承受能力，翻譯為“distress price”。
六、要命價：這裡要的是顧客的命，即商品的價格高得叫人不敢問津。
例如：I cannot afford this diamond, just look at this murdering price.
珠寶貴得要命，我買不起。
