什麼是修辭？碩博翻譯社資深英文翻譯師表示，不同的書有許多不同的定義. Harold B. Allen 這樣定義修辭：“The art of speaking or writing effectively”。說得更詳細點， 就是使語言起到更好的效果。使語言可以藝術地表達出思想和感受，中文表達和英文表達中都有修辭，它們有相似的地方，也有不同的地方，在英文翻譯之前，必須先比較瞭解修辭。
相似之處：
一，明喻
例：Friendship is like the breeze. You can not know when it is coming,but you can always feel it.
友誼如和煦的微風。你不知道它何時會到來，但你總能感覺到它。
在英語的句子裡，用到了 like， 在中文的句子裡用到了「如」。
二，暗喻
Kind heart are the gardens,Kind thoughts are the roots, Kind words are the flowers,Kind deeds are the fruits.
仁慈的心是花園，親切的思念是根莖，善言是花，仁慈的行為是果實
這裡都沒有用到連接詞， 英文中的like 或者中文中的「如」都省略了。
三，擬人
The wind and the sun were disputing who was the stronger.
風和太陽相互爭論誰更強大。
這裡把風和太陽描寫如人一般。
二：不同的地方
英語修辭中有Alliteration押頭韻
The fair breeze blew，the white foam flew， the furrow followed tree.
不同於英文翻譯而漢語修辭，有對照法
日出江花紅勝火，春來江水綠如藍.
還有相呼應法
她站在下雨的樹旁，脖子上的鏈子像是顆顆晶瑩的雨滴。雨滴從樹上落下，像是她的項鍊。
