1) 表示大約數目

a) fewer than／less than／under／below／within one thousand yuan少於一千元／不到一千元／一千元以下
b) below zero degrees Celsius 攝氏零度以下
3) 表示“差不多”的數目
差不多，是一種特殊的表示“少於”的數目的方法，接近特定數目或僅差一點。漢語在數詞前加“近”、“將近”、“接近”、“幾乎”、“差不多”、“差一點”、“差一點不到”等詞表示。英語在數詞前加nearly，almost，toward，close on等詞或片語表示， 例如：
a) nearly／almost／toward fifty years old將近五十歲／差一點五十歲

4) 表示“多於”的數目

b) above thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit華氏32度以上
5) 表示“介於"的數目
表示介於兩個特定數目之間的數目，漢語用“到”、“至”等詞連接兩個數詞，或用“介於…之間”表示。英語用from…to；(anywhere)between…and…表示，例如：
a) from five to six days; between five and six days五至六天
b) from eight hundred to nine hundred kilometres anywhere between eight hundred and nine hundred kilometres(介於) 八百到九百公里 (之間)
6) 表示“相鄰”的數目
連用兩個相鄰的數字，表示一個不確定數目。英語用or連接兩個相鄰數字來表示。注意“三三兩兩”是特殊的“相鄰”的數目。表示“兩個或兩個以上”等，英語在數詞後加or more表示， 例如：
